A new business with a 12% share of the UK chilled dairy market was created this week after Nestlé UK completed the acquisition of Northern Foods' Ski and Munch Bunch yogurt brands. Food division md Peter Hayes said the deal had catapulted Nestlé into second place in the UK chilled dairy market. "The combined business provides critical mass and a strong portfolio of brands," said Hayes. "It also enables us to exploit exciting potential in this growth category under the Nestlé brand." Nestlé is still looking for a buyer for ambient brands including Branston Pickle and SunPat peanut butter, which were put on the market at the end of January. Analysts said financial buyers Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst and Rank Hovis were probably the most likely bidders as British companies were looking at higher growth chilled categories and multinationals were focusing on a clutch of big brands. {{NEWS }}
