A new blue variety of cheese is reporting record sales in the run up to Christmas.

Garstang Blue, handmade by the Dew-Lay dairy in Lancashire, said the product had been flying off the supermarket shelves. The company is producing bigger batches of the blue cheese each week, and now producies around 1,500 tonnes a year.

Ian Coggin, sales manager, said: “Everyone is familiar with traditional Lancashire, which is soft and creamy, but imagine that as a blue cheese.”
