Companies selling packaged foods in the US will have to label all their products with details of the levels of trans-fats they contain under new government regulations from 2006.

Trans-fats are found in meat, milk, biscuits and crisps and are known to raise cholesterol levels which can cause heart-related health problems.

A spokesman for the US Food and Drug Administration said that “trans-fats can no longer lurk, hidden, in our food choices”. And added that the FDA would make another announcement regarding nutrition later this week.
