Scottish Quality Salmon has welcomed a new strategic framework for aquaculture as a strong signal for the future of the Scottish industry.

Scotland’s Strategic Framework for Aquaculture will be officially unveiled today at the Scottish Aquaculture conference by the deputy minister for the Environment and Rural Development Allan Wilson

Chairman of SQS Lord Jamie Lindsay said the launch of the framework was a positive commitment by the Scottish Executive to a confident and forward-looking strategic direction for a vital Scottish industry.

However, Lindsay also emphasised that investment was key to securing a progressive, sustainable and successful industry in the future.

He added: “The attributes and benefits that all interest should be determined to achieve cannot be delivered without investment - and investment relies on competitiveness, good governance and a sense of national purpose.”
