The 2002 Brammy Awards, organised by the Bramley Apple Campaign in conjunction with The Grocer, launches on Monday. The event, in its ninth year, rewards those retailers, manufacturers, caterers and food writers who have demonstrated the versatility of Bramley apples and supported the variety over the year. This year's awards include two new categories, best foodservice and best catering organisation, while the best innovative product category has been split into sweet and savoury sections. "The introduction of new categories illustrates just how adaptable Bramley is," said chairman of the Bramley Campaign Ian Mitchell. The 12 categories also include best pie/pastry, apple sauce, juice or drink and media chef. The best multiple retailer will also be judged for the effectiveness of its fresh Bramley promotions. Judging takes place on July 19 and winners will receive a Brammy trophy and publicity for their company and winning product. Closing date for entries is July 12.
