A large number of Jersey new potato growers have decided to cease growing next season, according to the British Potato Council. However it says other producers are expected to take up the area so that plantings in 2002 should be similar to the current season at around 3,000 hectares. Exports to date have reached around 33,000 tonnes as the season comes to a close. Brittanny's exports to the UK have only accounted for 4,700t to date compared with 17,150t at the same time last year. It is now too late for yields to increase. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
