The £10m worth of cuts across Tesco's wine fixture unveiled this week could be the first strike in a pricing strategy that will move across other categories this year. A spokeswoman for the multiple said: "This initiative is not just about wine and it may be the first of many." The multiple has targeted 130 wines in all price bands and the reductions will be permanent. The spokeswoman said this was not about stock clearing. "This is about maintaining competitiveness and leading the market for our consumers and attracting new ones. We need to continually innovate if we want to remain the market leader." It was also suggested this would help dissuade consumers from buying bootlegged wines. The price cuts will not apply to Tesco's Calais store. {{NEWS }}
