A 100g portion provides around 187 calories

Babyfood startup Pipsie & Moo has made its grocery debut with a range of muffin-making kits.

The three-strong lineup is designed to create snacks for weaning babies aged seven months-plus. Magic Banana, Magic Mango and Magic Veg (rsp: £3.20/241g to 272g) each make eight egg-free muffins that contain real fruit and vegetables, and no added sugar. A 100g portion provides around 187 calories and between 5.4g and 14.1g of sugar.

Pipsie & Moo had been in development for three years “to create something new and interesting for parents following baby-led weaning”, said co-founder Laura Chase. She and her business partner, Karen Clarke, had been “frustrated by the lack of nutritious meal and snack options in the baby aisle”.

She added: “Muffins are an easy win for all parents as most babies will happily eat them. In a sea of rice cakes and dried fruits, we’re really excited to be able to bring something new.”

The kits were designed to be “a fun activity that parents can do with their toddlers and infants”, Chase added. The muffins take 10 to 12 minutes to bake, and can be frozen.

They are available from the Pipsie & Moo website, with Banana and Veg variants set to land in Sainsbury’s on 13 October.
