Coca-cola is developing a zero-calorie sweetener to rival Tate & Lyle’s Splenda.

Last week Coke filed 24 patent applications for a product named Rebiana, which is derived from Paraguayan shrub Stevia.

Coke, which will hold the exclusive rights to develop and sell Rebiana in beverages, is collaborating with US agricultural giant Cargill, which will secure the food rights.
