Meridian Wines is planning to exploit a niche market for quality Italian wines with the introduction of two new lines from the Puglia region. The distributor has developed two styles for its il Meridione brand. Both are made from the Negro Amaro grape, one retailing at £4.99 and the other, Negro Amaro Primario  which is barrel-aged  selling at £6.99. Spokesman Tony Brown said: "There is a niche market for quality Italian wines from the lesser known regions. These have potential because consumers are not as tied to the classic Italian wine regions as they are in France and the right wine style in the right package can produce good results." He said the wines would be principally targeted at the specialist sector. {{DRINKS }}
