Banned spinal cord is now being discovered in imported beef almost once a week, according to farming leaders.
The Food Standards Agency found the 38th breach this year in a consignment of meat from Spain.
Spinal cord is one of the specified risk materials' that has to be removed from the carcass under EU regulations. National Farmers' Union president Ben Gill said: "It is astounding that these breaches continue seemingly unabated.
"The continuing stream of discoveries needs to be addressed by Brussels.
"It would seem abattoirs in member states are not getting the message."
