As many as 995 Nisa members are now buying their bread via the buying group’s central distribution centre in Scunthorpe.

Members using the service were ordering 150 units a week on average, with one larger member ordering 1,900 units, Nisa said. This amounted to a total of 2.3 million units of bread to date.

An unprecedented number of members were trialling the service, said distribution director Jonathan Stowe.
