Waitrose announced that it would have no organic turkeys to sell this Christmas following the avian flu outbreak in November.

The supermarket had been planning to source 18,000 birds from two farms on the border of Norfolk and Surrey, but these birds were slaughtered due to bird flu, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Industry experts said the cull of tens of thousands of birds in East Anglia in November has led to the shortfall in supply of fresh turkey and prise rises were likely.
