Macho video game Call of Duty has lost its top spot in the annual entertainment product rankings for the first time in three years – to a girl.

Singer Adele outgunned the shooting game during 2011, with her album 21 selling an estimated 3.9 million copies, more than a million ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Harry Potter continued to cast a spell over Brits, meanwhile, with Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part One topping sales of DVD and Blu-ray titles.

The figures have been released by the Entertainment Retailers Association, which said total volume sales of products in its top 40 chart were up 1.5% year-on-year.
