Media distributor Paramount is ramping up its activity with Amazon after a Star Trek promo generated stellar sales.

Trekkers could buy DVDs and Blu-rays from a pop-up shop at the Destination Star Trek London convention last month using the online retailer’s Scan & Buy technology, which allows shoppers to purchase goods simply by scanning a barcode.

The activity resulted in a 1,300% year-on-year hike in sales of Star Trek DVDs and Blu-rays in the week of the convention.

Paramount has used Scan & Buy in press ads with a barcode allowing shoppers to buy TV show The Borgias, and plans similar activity for the February home video launch of Madagascar 3.
