Children’s publisher Egmont is to launch the first official books based on the phenomenally successful online game Minecraft.

Rolling out to stores in September, the range will comprise four handbooks - Beginner’s, Redstone, Combat and Construction - an annual, a poster book and a magazine. The line-up is due to be extended next year.

“We want to feed gamers’ thirst for knowledge through an engaging reading experience while offering exclusive content from the developers,” said Sarah Bates, director of Egmont’s licensed character division.

Since launching in 2009, exploration and building game Minecraft is estimated to have sold around 20 million copies.
