Tesco’s online video service Blinkbox is to start selling and renting out Disney titles the day they are released on DVD.

Blinkbox was acquired by Tesco last year and lets consumers view video via their PS3 or Xbox 360 games consoles, PC, iPad or smart TV. Clubcard holders who buy selected DVD or BluRay films are given free access to a digital version of the movie via the Blinkbox service.

The new deal will make upcoming films including War Horse and The Muppets available to buy or rent on Blinkbox as soon as they hit stores. Consumers will also have access to the studio’s back-catalogue of titles including Toy Story and Mary Poppins, along with shows such as Lost and Grey’s Anatomy, which are produced by Disney’s TV production arm, ABC Studios.

”This is the latest in a long line of deals ensuring Blinkbox offers the latest releases the same day as DVD,” said Blinkbox co-founder and chief executive Michael Comish.

“To put it into context, last week Blinkbox had 35 of the top 40 latest movie releases available to watch instantly.”

Blinkbox has already secured deals with major studios including Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox and Universal.
