NPA warns smallholders not to feed waste food to hobby pigs

NPA fears hobby pigs could lead to outbreak of disease

The National Pig Association is to launch a campaign to warn smallholders against feeding kitchen scraps to pigs, claiming it could trigger a major disease outbreak.

It intends to launch the campaign, under the strapline: ‘Please don’t kill me with kindness’, in publications read by small-scale pig keepers.

The farmer believed to have been the source of the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak was convicted of feeding unprocessed waste to his animals.
