Two low volume vintages in a row have hit some New Zealand vineyards. The country's Wine Institute estimates the 2001 harvest is 11% down on the previous year, but exports are expected to grow nevertheless. Villa Maria in Marlborough reported its 2001 vintage was 32% down on 1999 and its 2000 vintage was 30% down on 1999. It said as a result its Sauvignon Blanc wines would be in short supply and the quality remained high. {{DRINKS }}
