A new variety of raspberry can be harvested in the UK a week before the start of the traditional British season in mid June.
Georgia raspberries are a mid-season Floracane variety bred at Maryland University in the US.
The new fruit will be available exclusively through BerryWorld Plus, which said it offered good flavour and shelf life.
Director Peter Vinson said Georgia raspberries could be the first of several new varieties to emerge from Maryland.
“Georgia looks very encouraging and is the first productive variety from our collaboration, but we are confident there will be other marketable varieties to follow.”
