The Office of Fair Trading has referred Robert Wiseman Dairies acquisition of Scottish Milk Dairies to the Competition Commission.

The £0.9m deal, which was announced in August, was expected to be completed by the end of September.

Robert Wiseman said that it was disappointed that a referral was necessary and would consider the implications of the proposed purchase.

Scottish Milk Dairies supplies 10 million litres of milk per year, approximately 2% of fresh milk in Scotland, from its dairy and depot in Hamilton near Glasgow.
