Sir, The debate around large-scale farming will rumble on, and as it does, the dairy farming sector has a responsibility to ensure that people understand the important part dairy farming has to play in supplying sustainable food to an ever-growing world population, as noted at a recent meeting of The Chartered Institute of Marketing's Food, Drink and Agriculture Group ('Refusing megafarms will deter investment' The Grocer, 19 February).

DairyCo research consistently shows consumers are not sufficiently informed about the issues, and dairy farmers, through DairyCo, need to ensure that this ongoing debate is an informed one based on facts and evidence.

The size and type of dairy herd is not for us to decide, but we do need to develop our production systems and business models to ensure a vibrant future for the British dairy industry.
