Sir; Retailers sign up for the Paypoint terminal facility with the full knowledge of the contractual obligations involved ('Paypoint accused of strong arm tactics by rival operator', The Grocer, 30 June, p8). The Paypoint offer is a proven route to driving customers into stores. By virtue of offering a large range of payment services, the halo effect is that a Paypoint outlet will enjoy up to 60% more e top-up transactions than a non-Paypoint outlet. Our contractual expectancy is that these transactions are processed through our terminal - we ask retailers to comply with their agreements with us and no more. Convenience retailers recognise that our offer complements their stores better than those of our competitors.
