We believe they should take notice of what Irish retailers have been doing for many years. They use till receipts to highlight to every customer how much of their purchases comprise Irish produce. Not only does this engender loyalty to buying local, it also demonstrates the retailer's commitment to locally sourced produce. With consumers increasingly filling their shopping trolleys with local produce, and British retailers working actively with food groups such as ours to meet this demand, we believe they are missing an invaluable opportunity. We encourage British retailers to implement this simple and cost-effective approach. We're sure that consumers will not only welcome this, they'll be surprised and delighted at just how much of their weekly shop comprises home-grown food and drink.
