Harris International Marketing's convenience tracking programme has consistently shown that out of stocks and poor visibility are the overriding reasons why people fail to buy their intended purchase in a convenience store.
In fact, 65% of failed purchases can be attributed to these two reasons, which many believe are supply chain issues. However, HIM research has found that the real causes are often ranging and poor instore replenishment.
In most cases, a reduced range improves sales and profitability due to increased visibility.
We have been gathering data for our convenience tracking programme for six years and all along shoppers have told us availability is more important than acceptable prices.

The challenge for everyone is to improve product availability and visibility.
