Sir, I read with interest your article on the fall in Stella 4% sales over the past few months ('No smooth outcome as Stella 4% sales fall', 14 May). We took over our local store a year and a half ago, coming to the sector with no retail experience but with eyes wide open.

Since taking over the store, our two largest sellers in canned beers have been Carlsberg (price-marked packs), while a close second is the eight-can packs of Stella 4%.

Our customers seem to love the pack size, the price, the taste basically the whole thing. For a small village store, we try to keep as much of a range of stock that the shelf space will allow, but it just goes to show that what is popular in one area may not be in others, and vice versa. Interesting to see how we are bucking the trend.
