Investment banks are reining in corporate hospitality these days, but as Wal-Mart goes from strength to strength, the world's biggest retailer declined to cut corners at its agm.

Hollywood icon/professional sourpuss Ben Stiller was the star guest of the Asda parent's jamboree of corporate high-fiving, wowing the crowd in a 16,000-seat arena with a series of hilarious-and-entirely spontaneous gags about the inner workings of grocery retail. Adding yet more star quality was this year's American Idol winner Kris Allen - a favourite son of Wal-Mart's home state of Arkansas.

Look out for frump-headed foghorn Susan Boyle belting out the Asda jingle at a shareholder shindig near you.
