Sainsbury's has introduced what it claims is the highest-ever single price increase offered to its UK organic beef producers.
It has written to all producers in the Sainsbury's/ Anglo Beef Processors Producers Group to confirm that they will get a 30p/kg rise to 340p/kg until 31 July. Sainsbury's says this will equate to about £100 extra for the average organic beef animal.
This minimum price will then fluctuate from 310p-330p/kg for the rest of the grass season, before returning to the higher price thereafter. Sainsbury's said the move was intended to help suppliers with the higher costs of feed and meeting organic standards.
