Tulip International marketing director Malcolm Parkinson is pleased with the progress made on selling in Danepak branded organic bacon, on shelf later this month in "two top" multiples. Had there been many requests for own label versions? Parkinson said: "A lot of organic products are very niche lines and it takes a mainstream brand to lead and build the market." Own label and organic are not mutually exclusive, he agreed, but there is a price difference  either the consumer must pay or it must come out of retailer margins. "Once you get the organic market to a size, then you will get economies of scale," he added. But organic pigs will never be a cheap option. {{PROVISIONS }}
