Organic Welsh mountain lamb will hit shelves at 150 Safeway stores nationwide from August 4, making Safeway the first UK retailer to launch a regional organic product nationwide. Processed by HM Bennett in Hampshire and supplied via RG Jones Farmers Marts from organic farmers in Wales, the lamb is being rolled out nationally following successful trials. Launching the range at the Royal Welsh Show, HM Bennett sales director Dennis Hobbs said smaller, more succulent Welsh mountain lambs had been highly successful at Safeway over the last four years. Extending the range into organics at an affordable price point was possible through using smaller carcases and pack sizes. The initiative forms part of Safeway's Farmers are Bouncing Back' campaign Two new lines will also be added to the range: stuffed shoulder and saucy leg steak. All of Safeway's 230 meat counters across England and Wales sell Welsh lamb, and over 100 stores sell Welsh lamb retail packs. {{MEAT }}
