Oriental Express will this month become the latest food brand to slash salt levels in its products.
The Sizzling Stir Fry frozen range, comprising Chinese Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein and Chinese Prawns, is being relaunched with 35% to 48% less salt. Redesigned packs feature nutritional labelling and a blue heart logo promoting the reduced salt content.
The company said it was responding to consumer demand and the recent FSA campaign to reduce the average daily salt intake to 6g. Michaela Warren, Oriental Express Frozen Foods marketing director, said: “Salt content is now a live issue for consumers. Programmes such as Jamie’s School Dinners have turned up the heat on food producers. We are leading the frozen sector by making an ongoing commitment to push down salt levels across our whole portfolio, but not to the detriment of taste.”
The new branding will be used in the spring to launch a range of non-oriental stir-fry meals, such as Italian and Mexican, the company said.
