Six horticulturists have become the first members of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH) to achieve the organisation’s newly obtained chartered status.

The former Institute of Horticulture officially attained its royal charter on 21 July, and unveiled it to members at an event at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire this week.

Elevation to chartered status was welcomed by Sainsbury’s product technologist Theresa Huxley, who said “without professional horticulturalists we would have no fresh produce.”

It would also introduce professionalism, and allow the CIH to better represent the industry, claimed chartered horticulturist and CIH president-elect Andrew Gill.
