M&S global digital director Marcus East has left the business after 15 months for personal reasons.

East, who had previous digital experience at Apple and Comic Relief, started at M&S last January as part of the retailer’s drive to improve its online operation.

During his 15 months at M&S, East was responsible for running the M&S online business and “leading the company’s digital transformation around the globe”, according to his LinkedIn profile. This included innovations such as the rollout of the M&S style newsletter with “daily tips and lifestyle inspiration”.

Head of operations at M&S.com Ricky Wilson, who has now been promoted to head of online trading and merchandising, will cover the day-to-day running of M&S.com until a successor for East is recruited.

“We would like to thank Marcus for his contribution and we wish him well for the future,” said an M&S spokesperson.
