Fortnum & Mason has poached Selfridges head of food and catering Ewan Venters to become its new chief executive.

Venters will take up his new post in August. He replaces Beverley Aspinall, who left the upmarket Piccadilly grocery store at the end of May after seven years in the job.

“Ewan’s passion, expertise and fresh thinking will help take Fortnum & Mason into the next stage of growth,” said chairman Kate Hobhouse.

The appointment of Venters – who said he looked forward to using his experience to develop “Fortnum & Mason’s multichannel ambitions” – comes after shortly after Tim Fischer, a former manager at Marks & Spencer’s flagship Marble Arch store, joined the retailer as its new retail director.
