Starbucks plans to take on a thousand new apprentices over the next two years.
The coffee chain said 700 of the apprenticeships would be in the Greater London area. It is working with school-leavers’ website notgoingtouni.co.uk to lure youngsters to careers in retail.
Last year Starbucks said it planned to open 300 new UK stores over the coming five years, adding 5,000 new workers.
“This scheme is a great way to attract new talent into our business to improve our employee retention and support our future growth, as well as upping the skill-set of the wider coffee industry,” said Starbucks UK & Ireland boss Kris Engskov.
London mayor Boris Johnson said the announcement was “stonking news… for young Londoners”.
