Sam Fortescue has joined the editorial team as the face behind the five-page fresh foods section.
He has moved from Farmers Weekly, where he spent two years covering agricultural business news as well as launching and editing the magazine's new food chain section.
He picked up a range of awards for his news and feature writing at the title.
Prior to that Fortescue worked in Brussels covering agriculture policy for an EU news agency and in Bucharest on a weekly business title.
Fortescue said: "It's an exciting new role for me at The Grocer and I will be working hard to keep readers up to date on the meat, fish, dairy and fresh produce sectors.
"All of these sectors face tough challenges. But they are all vibrant sectors, full of great people, and all well placed to capitalise on consumers' desire for wholesome, healthy food with provenance."
