Caravan beneficiaries are to share a record £598,400 this month.
The charity helps 2,100 former grocery workers who have fallen on hard times. Each beneficiary receives an annual payment of £804 spilt into quarterly payments.
However, this month, due to a “very successful” year of fundraising, Caravan is giving everyone an extra £100. The charity also supports 139 dependants of beneficiaries who this Christmas will also receive an extra £100 each.
Around 1,675 beneficiaries will also receive a ‘virtual Christmas hamper’ worth £68, containing vouchers, gift cards and coupons from retailers and suppliers.
“While Christmas is generally the busiest time for our industry it is so heartwarming to see so many companies coming together to support former industry colleagues,” said Gillian Barker, director general at Caravan.
