Asda games chief Andrew Thompson is leaving the position to head up the retailer’s portable media and computing department.

The move marks the end of almost 10 years in the games business for Thompson, who was with Gamestation for six years before joining Asda in 2009. “It is with sadness that I leave the games industry,” he said. “However, I am extremely excited about the challenges ahead.”

Thompson is being replaced by Craig Thirkell in the role of games buying manager on 1 August.

Thirkell - who will be responsible for games hardware, software and accessories - was most recently buying manager for vision and audio.
