Lochlain Feeley left his MD role at Uniq two years ago

The former managing director of Uniq, Lochlain Feeley, has resurfaced as the new boss of Gunstones Bakery - a 2 Sisters Group business.

Feeley joined 2 Sisters this week to take up the role of managing director, bakery, at the company.

It is his first big job since leaving Uniq two years ago after the sale of the company to fellow convenience food business Greencore. Feeley had been MD of Uniq’s prepared foods business in Northampton.

Feeley, who joined Uniq in 2004, has more than 25 years’ experience in the grocery industry, having started his career in technical roles before moving into management and marketing. Before Uniq he worked at PepsiCo where he was part of the team that developed the Walkers Sensations range.

In his new role, Feeley will be responsible for the Gunstones business, which 2 Sisters acquired from Northern Foods in April 2011. It manufactures sandwiches, sushi and rolls from a factory in Dronfield, south of Sheffield.

Gunstones took on 200 new people last summer to cope with “unprecedented demand” from customers for sandwiches and sushi. However, more recently 2 Sisters Group has reported a drop-off in sales of food-to-go products.

Last month, it reported that like-for-like sales in its chilled division were down 5.5% in the second quarter ending 25 January. It said an increase in sales of meal solutions was offset by lower sales of food-to-go products.
