The Fairtrade Foundation has appointed David Lowbridge to managing director.

Lowbridge, who has worked with fledgling organic and ethical clothing businesses for the last two years, was previously managing director of the Austin Reed Group and managing director of Country Casuals.

In his new role, he will be responsible for delivering the Foundation's Tipping the Balance agenda, which aims to increase the impact of Fairtrade on producers' lives, shift public opinion towards making Fairtrade the norm, expand businesses engagement and develop the Fairtrade system.

"I am looking forward to using my experience to support and develop the work we are already doing," Lowbridge said.

" We hope to extend the difference Fairtrade makes to the lives of millions more people around the world."
