A Magners employee has pledged to raise a minimum of £5,000 for charity by completing 13 gruelling challenges in 2013.

Dave Knowles will kick off his fundraising efforts for the Motor Neurone Disease Association this weekend with a Tough Guy seven-mile assault course.

The national account manager, who has already raised £3,455.76, has also signed up to 12 other physically demanding events including the 24.5 mile Yorkshire 3 Peaks Race, the Edinburgh marathon, a two-day 120 mile bike challenge and the Great North Run.

He was inspired to raise money for the charity after his fiancé lost her mum to MND, a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord, which means messages gradually stop reaching muscles leading to weakness and wasting.

“The MDNA do a great job in trying to find a cure and is run completely by volunteers,” Knowles told The Grocer.

“I am personally paying for all entry costs/accommodation/travel etc so 100% of the charity contributions will go to helping the MNDA.”
