Symington’s, the convenience food supplier, has appointed Christian Boulter as business unit director.

Boulter will start the role on 15 May and will head up Symington’s southern business unit with responsibility for growing market share across Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S and Waitrose in that region. He will also lead Symington’s convenience strategy.

He joins from Britvic Soft Drinks where he worked for more than 10 years in a number of roles including business development manager, account director and director of immediate refreshment. He has also worked for The Campbell Soup Company and Kraft Foods. He will report into Symington’s chief commercial officer Matthew Lee.

“I’m delighted to appoint somebody of Christian’s reputation and calibre. His experience at Britvic, Campbell’s and Kraft will be invaluable in forming and then delivering our new commercial strategy, which will see us reinvigorate the convenience sector and our proposition,” said Lee, who previously worked with Boulter at Campbell’s.

“With brands such as Naked Noodle and Mug Shot, we can partner with our customers to provide tasty and healthy alternatives for lunchtime and snacking occasions.”

Boulter said: “I am excited to be able to join a well-established business which has a great heritage and clear opportunities for growth.”

Symington’s brands include Mug Shot, Naked Noodle, Ainsley Harriott, Ilumi, Granose, Oatburst, Ragu, Chicken Tonight and Golden Wonder.

The company also produces Aunt Bessie’s, Peppa Pig, Minions and Paw Patrol products under license.

It is headquartered in Leeds and employs 700 people across five sites.
