Jason Tarry

GroceryAid, the industry charity that supports former grocery workers who have fallen on hard times, has named Tesco’s chief commercial officer Jason Tarry as its new president.

Tarry replaces former Tesco colleague John Scouler, who was appointed GroceryAid president in April last year but was asked to step aside from his role at Tesco while the retailer investigated a £263m misstatement of profits. He left Tesco in November but was not accused of any wrongdoing.

Tarry, meanwhile, was promoted in January. He has worked at Tesco since 1990 in both food and non-food commercial divisions before being promoted to commercial director for UK general merchandise in 2005.

In 2008, he was made head of clothing for Central Europe and Turkey as well as Tesco’s department store operation in the Czech and Slovak Republics. In 2012, he was appointed CEO of group clothing.

“I am delighted to be taking on this role on behalf of Tesco. GroceryAid does brilliant work and we are proud to continue our longstanding relationship,” Tarry said.

GroceryAid director general Gillian Barker added: “We are delighted Jason has joined as our president and that Tesco is continuing its great support. With Jason on board it gives us a great opportunity to build on our fundraising base and help even more people.”
