Joe Street is to succeed Brian Robinson as chairman of the Federation of Bakers.

Street started his career as a management trainee with British Bakeries at Hollings College, Manchester. He worked in several of their bakeries until resigning from RHM as bakeries director for retail in 1989. He joined Fine Lady Bakeries as managing director in 1990.

He has been a council member and honorary treasurer of the Federation for several years and helped establish the use of an industry-wide bread basket.

"Joe brings a wealth of experience to the role," said Gordon Polson, director of the Federation of Bakers. "It is a challenging time for bakers and we look forward to Joe's knowledge and skill helping the Federation towards a successful future."

The new vice-chairman is Paul Molyneux and Brian Irwin becomes treasurer.
