England football captain David Beckham is lining up with five other international soccer stars for Pepsi's new TV and cinema commercial. Due to hit the big screen in April and the small screen in May, the Wild West-themed ad also stars the star's Argentinian team-mate at Man Utd, Juan Sebastian Veron, along with Spanish hero Raul and Brazilian stars Carlos and Rivaldo. It is part of a £5m football-based programme for the cola brand, which kicks off this month with online activity on the Pepsi microsite. On-pack promotions and instore activity will follow. Aimed at Pepsi's core 16 to 34-year-old audience, the programme continues the brand's strategy of linking up with worldwide stars in music and football and builds on last summer's World Cup activity. Meanwhile, the brand's UK distributor, Britvic, said there were no plans to bring a Diet version of Pepsi with a Twist to the UK, even though it has joined its sibling on US shelves. Lemon-flavoured Pepsi was launched in the UK in July last year, but distribution is still restricted to major multiples. The lemon Diet Pepsi version is a direct rival to Diet Coke with Lemon, which won the race to UK soft drink fixtures last June, even though it lost out in the US. It is on general distribution here and has so far achieved sales of more than £16m [Information Resources]. {{MARKETING }}
