To be called Pepsi Vanilla, PepsiCo also announced a raft of other product promotions to drive its soft drinks sales.
These include a game show where the final contestant can pocket $1bn to be screened on AOL Time Warner television and called ‘Pepsi Play For A Billion’. No details were given but the show will be produced by directors best known for their “Who wants to be a Millionaire” programme in the US.
A new orange-flavoured Mountain Dew variant - LiveWire - will also be launched, boosted by a tie-in with ‘The Hulk’, a new film from Universal Pictures.
Pepsi also said new packaging was in the pipeline including fridge-friendly can packs.
According to Beverage Digest Coca-Cola’s Vanilla Coke has sold 90 million cases since its May 2002 launch.
