Spanish Picota cherries hit UK shelves last week after a late start to the season caused by cold weather.

The poor weather during blossoming means volumes would probably be lower than forecast, said a spokesman for Spain's Cereza del Jerte Denomination of Origin Regulatory Council.

Picota have come on stream around 15 days later than normal, he added. "The quality of Picota is, however, good, with larger than average sized fruits."

Picota tasting sessions will be held in retailers throughout this month.
