Three new German beers are joining the Pierhead Purchasing portfolio, as the company tries to capitalise on the growing consumption of imported beers.

The Weltenburger beers all come from the world's oldest brewery, the Weltenburger Kloster, which has been brewing beer since 1050.

Pierhead will be offering Barock Dunkel, a 4.7% abv dark beer said to have an aromatic and malty flavour (rsp £1.59); Barock Hell, a 5.6% abv full-bodied pilsner, (rsp £1.69) and Asam Bock, a 9% abv full-bodied doppelbock, with hints of hazelnut and chocolate (rsp £1.89).

"Consumers are more discerning and adventurous in their beer selections for the home," said Michael Cook, director of imported beers at Pierhead.

"We have high expectations for these beers in the on and off-trade. They are among Germany's finest brewed-at-source beers."

All the beers have been stored for up to three months and come in 500ml bottles.
