The European Parliament will tomorrow sit down to a breakfast of British bacon, eggs and sausages in Brussels courtesy of the National Pig Association (NPA) and the National Farmers Union.

NPA chairman Stewart Houston said the meeting would be used to highlight animal welfare standards achieved by British pig farmers at the highest European level.

MEPs and European Commission representatives are expected to attend alongside industry lobbyists.

“We will be in Brussels to guide EU policy makers in making the right regulatory choices, keeping in mind the need for economic stability in the industry," said Houston.

UK company Dalehead Foods is the supplier for the event, sourcing meat from East Anglia and the East Midlands.
