The British bacon and pork industry hailed a major victory in the relentless shares battle against imported product on Thursday when it was revealed the Ministry of Defence would in future be using 100% British pork, bacon and gammon. The National Pig Association said that it was delighted that promises made by minister of agriculture Nick Brown had finally come to fruition. Earlier this year the minister promised to apply pressure to other government departments to "Buy British". National Pig Association chairman John Godfrey said: " This means that another 1,300 tonnes of British pigmeat will be required every year with a commensurate reduction in imports. "I hope schools, hopsitals and prisons will follow in the MoD's wake." {{NEWS }}
